Social Studies
Overview
The Social Studies Department offers a well balanced, traditional course of study reflecting a variety of interests. Designed to provide a wide-based perspective on the world and its people, the curriculum also encourages the development of thinking and learning skills necessary to acquire and use knowledge effectively. Students utilize up-to-date materials that relate present day events to past experience and foster an informed interest in national and international affairs. John Carroll School requires three credits in Social Studies for graduation, one of which must be U.S. History. The greatest majority of students enroll in Social Studies courses during the first three years, fulfilling the requirement at the end of the 11th grade and earning additional credits during the senior year.
