  • Teacher recommendation is based on:
    ○  student’s scholarly attitude and enthusiasm for English
    ○  contributions to the class and completion of all assigned work
    ○  the teacher’s confidence that the student can succeed in the higher level placement
  • Other criteria considered may include previous English grades, overall weighted GPA, and performance on midterm exams.
  • Placement into an honors or advanced placement course will not be approved without a teacher recommendation.

Students with less than an 85 average in Algebra 2 (Advanced, Honors, or Regular) will need to take a year-long Algebra 3 course. Honors Algebra 3 has a requirement of an 85 and above average in Algebra 2.

Additional Criteria

  • Teacher recommendations are based on math ability, work habits, attendance, and strong mathematical interest of the student.
  • **These Courses—Honors Pre-Calculus, Honors Algebra 3/Honors Trigonometry, Honors Calculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC-- require a summer assignment prior to start of class.

Additional Criteria

  • Teacher recommendation based on work ethic, positive class participation, and consistent completion of assignments.
  • It is important for students to have strong speaking, writing, listening and reading skills to be placed in an Honors or AP world languages class. 
  • Students will be required to complete a summer assignment in order to be prepared for the courses marked with an asterisk (*).
