- Attendance
-
Parents and students should make every effort to schedule appointments outside of school hours and ensure that students arrive to school on time and stay in school for the duration of the school day. If illness or unavoidable circumstances cause absence, late arrival or early dismissal, the School expects students to follow the summary of procedures listed below, with the full policies and procedures found in the Student Handbook.
- Beginning in the 2022–23 school year, The John Carroll School does not differentiate between excused and unexcused absences, and late arrivals and early dismissals.
- Students are allowed up to 10 absences each semester, not to exceed 20 per school year. Students are allowed up to 10 combined late/early dismissals each semester, not to exceed 20 per school year.
- Any student arriving after or leaving before 11:15 a.m. will be marked absent. Students must arrive before 9:00 a.m. to participate in extracurricular activities for that day, unless it is an excused late arrival with proper documentation (e.g., medical documentation, court summons, etc.).
- Students are only permitted to enter and leave the front of the building at the security desk and should use the attendance kiosk.
Attendance Reporting & Notification
- If a student is absent, late or requires an early dismissal, please log in to the Veracross Parent Portal and select "Online Attendance Form" to record the necessary information.
- While the School notifies parents regarding any student absences/late arrivals at 10:00 a.m., parents also have access to their student’s attendance record through the Veracross Parent Portal.
- Parents must contact the Attendance Moderator for any planned/medical extended absence to complete an Extended Absence Form. Parents who expect to be away from home for an extended period of time should supply the Attendance Office with the name, address and telephone number of the adult responsible for the student in their absence.
