2018 Underclass Awards - Recognizing Effort and Excellence

 Patriots honored at the 2018 Underclass Awards AssemblyFriday's assembly marked the beginning of the end of the 2017-2018 school year as academic departments presented underclass awards. The awards assembly recognized a handful of students whose performance and effort stands out as truly excellent. Congratulations to each of this year's underclass award winners listed below!

The Judith Resnik Award was presented to Christina Zhang for outstanding performance in mathematics and science and participation in advanced placement courses.

The Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society Award was presented to Diana Dai for being an outstanding science and math student. 

The Rensselaer Medal Award was presented to Bryan Stancliff for superlative academic achievement and motivation toward a career in science, engineering, and technology. This award also includes a merit scholarship, if he is accepted and enrolls at Rensselaer.  

The Jim Chrismer Excellence in US History Award was presented to Jack Plumer for his excellence in the study of US History.  Along with the honor of the award Jack will have his Social Studies books paid for next year by the Social Studies Department. 

TV Production Award recipient is Sehrish Shaukat for exemplifying creative spirit, technical expertise, and journalistic integrity in her work.

Carson Scholar recipient is Kirstin Huggins for her academic achievement and service to the community.

Xavia Borys Pirozzi Photography Award recipient is Catherine (Helen) Smith for her interest and excellence in creative photography. 

McGann/Cumpston Award was created in May 2003 by family members in memory of Annie McGann Cumpston, daughter of Tom and Megan McGann ’82 Cumpston. The scholarship recognizes and celebrates the loving and generous spirit in John Carroll Students. This year’s recipients are:

Class of 2019: Sydney Moss, Marissa Munson and Christina Zhang

Class of 2020: Jamison Blondell and Katelyn Patrick

Class of 2021: Lauren Kozera, Jillian Kurzmann, Maggie MacKenzie and Sarah Nelson
