Academic Support Program

The Academic Support Program is dedicated to empowering high school students to reach their full academic potential and achieve success both inside and outside the classroom. This program provides educational support for students who may experience difficulty with the transition to high school or with the demands of a college preparatory curriculum. Students in the Academic Support Program may have a 504 plan, received low test scores on standardized tests, and/or previously struggled in academic work or with executive functioning skills.

The Academic Support Program teaches students organizational, time management, advocacy and study skills and is designed to address the learning needs of each individual. This program was created to help meet the academic needs of students so they can be successful at John Carroll. These students will also benefit from the use of our testing center.

Students meet once a cycle with our academic support instructor in a one-on-one or small group setting. During this meeting, students receive academic coaching on their progress. The academic advisor will check student’s grades, track progress, facilitate communication with teachers and communicate with parents. Academic Support Program instructors encourage the improvement of organizational skills and study strategies as well as student application of effective study methods.

This program accepts students based on need and includes students who may or may not have received academic support prior to acceptance. Priority will be given to students with a 504 plan, poor HSPT scores and below average grades. Program space is limited, and this is a fee-based program.
